What is actually happening
A file carries a pixel size and, sometimes, a DPI tag. Those two imply a physical size, and it is frequently not the one you meant. If the RIP is told to fit a given area it will scale to that area, and any mismatch shows as a print that is too big or too small.
How to fix it
- 1.Decide the printed width in inches first, before checking anything else.
- 2.Check that the file has enough pixels for it — 300 DPI at that width.
- 3.Set the size explicitly in your RIP rather than relying on the file to carry it.
